Gunson Plays 100th cap

Maungakaramea's Ella Gunson played her 100th cap for the New Zealand Black Sticks in front of a home crowd when they beat Canada 4-1 in Whangarei. It was the same turf Gunson made her debut for the national side on in 2009.

Club Night Success

All of the Maungakaramea Hockey Club’s senior teams played on Friday 11th April in their club night, a new initiative Hockey Northland is trying this year. The club nights are designed to bring clubs together and build relations between teams in the club.

Undefeated First Weekend

In the first weekend of Northland Hockey for 2014, Maungakaramea pulled off an undefeated round, with all five of the senior teams that played, having wins or draws. Both the premier men and women’s competitions look to be closely competitive this year, with nothing separating either of our premier teams from their oppositions.

2014 Winter Season Hits Off

The 2014 Northland hockey season hits off this Thursday 3rd April. The Premier teams start their season on Saturday 5th April with our Real Deal Karamea Women playing Gilmore Brown Springfield at 12.20pm and our Dempster and Hill Electrical Men facing Bream Bay United at 3.20pm.

Volunteering Superstar

Maungakaramea Hockey Club secretary and treasurer Jo Thorne won a Sport Northland Sports Maker award in February for all the volunteering work she does for the club. This well-deserved award was given to Jo by Sport Northland after she was nominated by Tama Jones of Mangapai.
